Strong Showing in Singles Play Earns Win For Women's Tennis Over New Haven, 5-2

RINDGE, N.H. (10/2/22) – For the first time since September 15th, the Franklin Pierce women's tennis team returned home for some more Northeast-10 conference action, as they played host to the University of New Haven in a 5-2 win over the Chargers.

The Ravens open the new month on a high note, and remain unbeaten this season at 5-0 overall following the home victory. The Chargers move to 5-2 overall with the loss.

All five of the Raven points stemmed from victories in singles competition, following New Haven victories in two of three in doubles. At No. 1 singles, junior Maria Penalver (Las Palmas, Spain) fought to a three-set victory (7-6, 4-6, 7-5) over Charger opponent Valentina Ferrarini, tying the match at 1-all. Graduate Ana Platisa (Belgrade, Serbia) had a strong showing for the birds at No.3 singles, defeating New Haven's Gaayatri Shankar in two sets by scores of 6-3, 6-2. Through the remainder of singles action, the Ravens also collected wins from senior Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia), junior Aynara Ferraz (Canary Islands, Spain) and Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario), who won at No. 4 singles by default.

Women's Tennis will remain home for their next matchup, when they will welcome in-state, in-conference opponent Southern New Hampshire for a 2 p.m. battle in Rindge.
