Women's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season With 7-2 Triumph at Babson

Wellesley, Mass. (4/24/22) – Franklin Pierce women's tennis concluded their regular season on the road Sunday afternoon, working off of a clean sweep through all doubles matchups, and victories in four out of six singles rounds to defeat host Babson University by a final of 7-2.

With the out of conference triumph, women's tennis finishes up with a 13-5 overall record, confirming their reservation with the upcoming NCAA tournament. Babson College moves to 10-7 in their respective spring season with the loss.

The party started at first doubles, with junior Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) and graduate Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) claiming a single set victory of 8-6 in a closely fought battle with Babson opponents Olivia Soffer and Adele Fernandez. At the second court, the Ravens won with ease between graduates Anais Geslin (Livry-Gargin, France) and Estela Carra (Logrono, Spain) after posting an 8-0 shutout win. The final pairing at third doubles finished the job through another dominant victory of 8-3, resulting of the efforts between Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) and Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain).

Both Liria Loria and Himani Mor also posted two set wins in singles, with Mor battling through an opening set tiebreaker to win in the closing frame 6-2. Additionally, the doubles pairing of Geslin and Carra also saw success over at fourth and fifth singles, with each member earning a pair of wins on the afternoon, also through two sets.

The Beavers claimed wins in first and sixth singles, with freshman Olivia Soffer claiming a victory versus Maria Penalver Aguilo in a third set tiebreaker, winning 6-4 in the deciding set. Shanaya Naik claimed the second win in sixth singles, winning decisively through two sets 6-0 and 6-2.

Women's tennis awaits their placement in the NCAA Tournament, where they hold an auto-bid as reigning NE10 champions from the fall season. The NCAA selections are expected on Tuesday, May 3rd.
