Women's Tennis Back On Track with 5-2 Win at Holy Cross

Worcester, Massachusetts (4/2/22) – After having lost their last two matchups, Franklin Pierce women's tennis kicked off the month of April in the best way possible. The Ravens found themselves back in the win column this afternoon, defeating Holy Cross on their turf by a final score of 5-2.

Women's tennis ends their recent skid and improves to 12-4 on the season. Holy Cross, now slipping to eight straight losses, falls to 5-10 this season.

The Ravens dominated singles matchups, winning four out of six matchups as well as two doubles competitions for the single point. The highlight performance came from #3 singles, which featured graduate student Anais Geslin (Livry-Gargin, France) and Holy Cross' Courtney Callas. Geslin claimed the win over Callas through two sets, starting and remaining strong with 6-1 and 6-0 wins respectively. All remaining singles matchups were also settled through two sets for the Ravens, with sophomore Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain) winning at #1 singles (6-3, 6-4), graduate Estela Carra (Logrono, Spain) claiming victory at #4 singles (6-4, 6-2) and finally Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Canada) winning at #5 singles (6-2, 6-4).

At #1 doubles, a tag-team effort between Anais Geslin and Estela Carra saw closely drawn success in the first of two single set matches, defeating the Holy Cross tandem of Maddie DeNucci and Ahana Nagarkatti 6-4. Across the court, Maria Penalver Aguilo and Zoe Asterio Correa defeated Crusaders Elizabeth Gibbons and Jasmine Rahman by a decisive 6-2 final. With the winning point solidified, the third doubles match was inconclusive.

Women's Tennis will get a chance to compete at home for the first time in the spring season with an upcoming matchup this Thursday against visiting St. Thomas Aquinas, with the action set to begin at 1 PM E.T.
