HOOKSETT, N.H. (October 22, 2021) – The No. 3-seeded Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team upset the No. 2-seeded Southern New Hampshire University in a 4-0 sweep in the NE10 Championship Semifinals on Friday afternoon at the Penman Stadium Tennis Courts to clinch a spot in the NE10 Championship Finals for the second consecutive year.

The Ravens improve to 10-2 overall on the season, while the Penman fall to 9-2. The Crimson and Grey earned their spot to the title match that is slated for Sunday, and will look to defend the title.

Franklin Pierce put together a strong showing on the doubles courts, claiming wins at No. 2 and No. 1 positions to take the early 1-0 lead. Graduate student duo Anais Geslin (Livry-Gargin, France) and Estela Carra (Logrono, Spain) took down SNHU's pair of Guntra Upeniece and Isabella Andrade, 6-0, before graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and junior Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) secured a 6-1 victory over Natalie Kallmunzerova and Alexxa Etienne of SNHU.

Sophomores Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain) and Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) were tied 3-3 with SNHU's Elizabeth Dwyer and Magdalena Hubickova before the match came to an end.

In singles competition, the Ravens picked up victories on courts No. 6, No. 5 and No. 2. Asterio Correa finished first to push FPU ahead 2-0 after winning 7-5, 6-2 over Mina Houge of SNHU. Geslin grabbed the next singles point for Franklin Pierce, defeating SNHU's Upeniece 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, while Mor clinched the match with her 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Hubickova of SNHU.

Penalver Aguilo, Loria and Carra all had unfinished matches. Loria was slightly ahead at No. 3 singles in the third set after falling in the first set, before taking the second set against Etienne of SNHU. Carra was tied 4-4 with Andrade at No. 4 singles in the second set after being behind 1-0, while Penalver Aguilo was behind 1-4 in the second set after being downed 5-7 in the first by SNHU's Kallmunzerova.

The winner of the No. 1-seeded Le Moyne and No. 4-seeded Adelphi match will determine if Franklin Pierce hosts the NE10 Championship or travel, as the title match will be held at the highest remaining seed's venue at 1 p.m.
