Women's Tennis Sweeps Saint Michael's, 7-0, on the Road

COLCHESTER, Vt. (October 6, 2021) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team swept Saint Michael's, 7-0, at the SMC Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon. The victory marks the fourth straight win for the Ravens.

Notching the doubles point, the Ravens jumped to an early 1-0 lead. The duo of junior Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) and graduate student Estela Carra (Logrono, Spain) finished on court No. 1 first, defeating Bree Cotroneo and Ava Albis of Saint Michael's, 6-0. At No. 3 doubles, graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and junior Jillian Pagliuca (Taunton, Mass.) won 6-0 over the Saint Michael's pair, Elly McKenna and Sarah Knickerbocker, before the sophomore duo of Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain) and Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) downed Abby Edelmann and Annie Serkes of Saint Michael's 6-0 on No. 2.

Franklin Pierce picked up wins on all six singles courts. Mor defeated Albis of Saint Michael's 6-0, 6-0 on No. 3, followed by Loria, who won 6-1, 6-0 over Cotroneo of Saint Michael's on No. 2. At No. 4 singles, Carra took down Saint Michael's Annie Serkes 6-1, 6-0, before Penalver Aguilo got a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Edelmann of Saint Michael's on court No. 1. Asterio Correa won 6-0, 6-1 over McKenna of Saint Michael's and Pagliuca defeated Saint Michael's Emma Posada 6-1, 6-1 on courts No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, to give the Ravens the last two points of the match.

The Crimson and Grey return home on Saturday, October 9, to host Stonehill for a 1 p.m. match. Prior to the match, three Ravens will be honored for senior day.
