Duo Mor and Geslin Victorious in ITA East Regionals Doubles Competition to Finish Tournament Play

FLUSHING, N.Y. (September 20, 2021) – Graduate students' duo Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and Anais Geslin (Livry-Gargin, France) were crowned ITA East Regionals double champions last weekend after members of the women's tennis program competed in the tournament on Friday, September 17 through Sunday, September 19 at the USTA National Tennis Center.

In addition to Mor and Geslin competing in both doubles and singles play, junioir Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) also competed in both doubles and singles matches. Graduate student Estela Carra (Logrono, Spain) teamed up with Loria in doubles competition, while sophomores Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) and Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain) played in singles competition.

During doubles play, the third-ranked duo of Mor and Geslin defeated Alyssa Baur and Briana Gonzalez of Molloy 8-0, in the first round, as No. 2 Barbie Quagliardi and Caterina Federici of Adelphi defeated Carra and Loria 8-5. Mor and Geslin moved on to the second-round downing Wilmington (Del.) pair Neus Ramos Moreno and Larize Nel 8-4, before winning 8-0 over No. 6 Brooke Fernandez and Francesca Lilliegren in the Quarterfinals round on Saturday.

The duo competed in the Semifinals defeating No. 2 Quagliardi and Federici of LeMoyne by a score of 8-4 to advance to the finals. Mor and Geslin earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Stonehill's Steffi Antao and Cristina Solorzano Valencia to collect the doubles tournament title.

In singles competition, Mor and the 14th-ranked Loria moved on in play after defeating their opponents 6-4, 6-3, and 6-2, 6-3, respectively, in the first round. Loria continued to advance, as she became the lone Raven to compete in the singles tournament after defeating Charlotte Kordonowy of USciences 3-6, 6-3, 1-0(2) in the second round and Emma Marakayan of Stonehill 6-2, 6-4 in the third round.

After advancing to the Quarterfinals round, No. 11 Ivana Andric of New Haven took the match, as No. 14 Loria fell 6-0, 4-6, 1-0(5) to finish out play at the regionals tournament.

The Ravens are back in action on Wednesday, September 22, when they host LeMoyne at the Tennis Courts for a 2:30 p.m. match.
