Women's Tennis Tops AIC on the Road, 7-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 11, 2021) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team picked up its second win of the season after defeating Northeast-10 conference rival, American International, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon at Pope Francis. With the victory, the Ravens move to 2-0 overall on the year.

The Crimson and Grey collected the doubles point with wins at all three courts. Graduate student Anais Geslin (Livry-Gargin, France) and sophomore Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain) were the first court to finish at No. 2, defeating AIC's duo Brianna Shvetsov and Sophie Roberge, 6-0. Graduate Estela Carra (Logrono, Spain) and sophomore Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) defeated duo Alexa Conlin and Charlotte Tvelia of AIC 6-2, before junior Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) and graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) downed their opponents, Meri Jimeno-Vicente and Victoria Azcona of AIC 6-3.

The Ravens kept up the momentum in the singles competition, grabbing all six points. On No. 4, Mor defeated Shvetsov 6-0, 6-0, followed by Loria defeating Conlin 6-0, 6-1 on No. 3. At No. 1 singles, Geslin defeated Jimeno-Vicente of AIC 6-0, 6-1, while Carra took her point for FPU defeating Roberge 6-0, 6-0 on No. 5. CAsterio Correa defeated AIC's Tvelia 6-1, 6-0 on No. 6, before Penalver Aguilo defeated Azcona of AIC 6-3, 7-5 to clinch the match for the Crimson and Grey.

FPU will hit the road for a NE10 conference match at Southern New Hampshire in Manchester, N.H. on Sunday, September 12, with the contest slated to start at 1 p.m.
