Women’s Tennis Downed at Bryant, 6-1

Himani Mor

CUMBERLAND, R.I. (March 14, 2022) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its season on Monday, with a trip to take on Division I Bryant. The Ravens were upended in the non-conference affair, 6-1.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 11-3 on the season, while Bryant improves to 6-3.

Bryant took all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point out of the gate. The most-competitive of the trio came at first doubles, where junior Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) and graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) pushed things to the brink, but suffered a 7-5 defeat at the hands of seniors Ada Boru and Leanne Kendall.

Franklin Pierce's lone point of the day came at first singles, where sophomore Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain) locked horns with Boru. The former took the first set easily, while the latter pulled out a tiebreak win in the second set. Aguilo took care of business in the third set though, and put together the 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-1 victory.

Third singles was a three-set affair as well, with Loria tussling with freshman Caitlyn Munson. This one went Bryant's way, as Munson tallied a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win.

The Ravens are scheduled to be back in action on Wednesday, March 16, when they travel to the Magic Lincer Tennis Club in Manchester, Conn., for a non-conference, neutral-site contest with Quinnipiac.
