RINDGE, N.H. (April 19, 2021) – Another day, another shutout for the Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team, which took to its home courts against the visiting Assumption University Greyhounds on Monday afternoon. The 7-0 shutout was the team's fifth in eight matches this season.

With the Northeast-10 Conference win, Franklin Pierce improved to a perfect 8-0 (8-0 NE10), while Assumption fell to 2-6 (2-6 NE10).

The day was started with a pair of doubles matches which went the Ravens' way, as Franklin Pierce claimed the doubles point. Graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and sophomore Liria Loria (La Paz, Brazil) took care of business in the one-spot and defeated seniors Julia Chappell and Valeria Sanchez by a score of 6-2. The two-spot saw a 6-4 victory for sophomore Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain) and freshman Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain) over their counterparts, sophomore Cara McCormack and freshman Caitlin Sze.

Assumption was shorthanded on the afternoon and defaulted at third doubles. The Greyhounds would default at sixth singles as well, and the Ravens held a 2-0 lead before singles play began.

The Franklin Pierce success carried into the singles matches, as freshman Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) started in the five-spot with a 6-4, 6-4 win over sophomore Aimee Figgins. Penalver Aguilo was next up for the Ravens in the one-spot and defeated Chappell, 6-3, 6-2, to clinch the team match. Alvarez Tello defeated Sanchez, 7-6 (2), 6-2, in the third singles match.

At second singles, Loria defeated Sze two sets to one (6-4, 3-6, 6-1), as Sze won Assumption's only set of the day. Rounding out the ledger for Franklin Pierce, graduate student Estela Carra (Logrono, Spain) won over McCormack in the fourth spot, 6-4, 6-4.

The Ravens are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, April 21, when they wrap up the regular season with a 3 p.m. match at Bentley.
