RINDGE, N.H. (March 17, 2021) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team made its first-ever postseason appearance a year ago. The Stonehill College women's tennis team is the two-time defending Northeast-10 Conference champion and has appeared in the NE10 title match in each of the last six seasons. On Wednesday afternoon at Franklin Pierce, the former swiftly dealt with the latter. The Ravens dispatched the Skyhawks in under two hours, rolling to a 4-0 win on their home courts in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 2-0 (2-0 NE10), while Stonehill falls to 1-1 (1-1 NE10).

As they did on Sunday at Saint Michael's, Franklin Pierce opened play by winning all three doubles matches to claim the first point of the afternoon. First doubles went in the books first, with graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and sophomore Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) rolling to a 6-2 win over junior Samantha Ormesher and sophomore Cristina Solorzano Valencia. Third doubles followed with a 6-2 score line as well, as graduate student Estela Carra (Lograno, Spain) and freshman Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) triumphed over senior Isabelle Porter and junior Emma Markaryan to wrap up the doubles point for the Ravens. Franklin Pierce added a 7-5 win at second doubles as well, courtesy of freshman Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain) and sophomore Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain), who defeated sophomores Steffi Antao and Lily Peter.

The doubles win left the Ravens needing to win just three of six singles contests to wrap things up, and they did so in short order. Loria got things started at fourth singles, with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ormesher. At second singles, Mor rolled through Antao, 6-0, 6-4. Penalver Aguilo closed out the match at first singles when she finished off a 6-2, 6-2 win over Solorzano Valencia.

At third singles, Alvarez Tello had taken the first set from Markaryan, 7-5, but Markaryan had taken a 4-1 lead in the second set. The match was left unfinished after Franklin Pierce wrapped up the team match.

The Ravens are scheduled to return to action on Sunday, March 21, when they remain home to host Saint Anselm in an NE10 match at 1 p.m.
