RINDGE, N.H. (October 12, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated at home on Saturday afternoon, 5-2, by Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 8-4 (5-4 NE10), while Stonehill improves to 8-2 (8-1 NE10).

Stonehill opened play by taking two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. The lone doubles victory for Franklin Pierce came courtesy of graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and freshman Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) at first singles, as they notched a 6-1 win over Stonehill junior Isabelle Porter and sophomore Samantha Ormesher.

Singles play was highly competitive, with each of the top three matches going three sets, though Stonehill ultimately took four of the six singles contests to round out the 5-2 victory. At first singles, freshman Cristina Solorzano Valencia rallied past Mor for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory. At second singles, Loria picked up a point for Franklin Pierce by battling back for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win. Franklin Pierce's other point came at third singles, where freshman Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain) chalked up a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 win over sophomore Emma Markaryan

Stonehill showcased its depth farther down the ledger, as the Skyhawks dropped only six games combined, while taking straight-set victories at fourth, fifth and sixth singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Sunday, Oct. 13, when they travel to Bates for a non-conference match at 1 p.m. in Lewiston, Maine.
