Women’s Tennis Rolls at Saint Michael’s, 6-1

COLCHESTER, Vt. (October, 9, 2019) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team chalked up its third straight win on Wednesday afternoon. While visiting Saint Michaels College, the Ravens won 6-1 in a Northeast-10 Conference match.

This win puts the Ravens at 7-3 (4-3 NE10), while Saint Michael's falls to 4-6 (3-6 NE10).

The Ravens dominated two doubles matches, but fell short in the third, on the way to picking up the doubles point. Graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and freshman Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) won at first doubles against Caroline Sumner and Abby Ramsay, 6-2. At second doubles, freshmen Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain) and Jazmin Flood (Laredo, Texas) took down Annie Serkes and Ava Albis, 6-1. During third doubles, freshman Ashley Flood (Laredo, Texas) and senior Brigid Washburn (Greentown, Pa.) were bested by Abby Edelmann and Elly McKenna in a tight match, 7-6 (3).

Fortunately for the Ravens, singles play went even better, as the team took five of six matches to run up the 6-1 team victory. At first singles, Mor took Brittany Katz, 6-1, 6-0. Loria won at second singles against Serkes, 6-1, 6-0. At third doubles, Alvarez Tello overtook Albis, 6-2, 6-1. Ashley Flood fell short in fourth singles against Sumner in a tiebreaker third set, 7-6 (9), 2-6, 1-0 (10-6). Jazmin Flood won at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-0, against Edelmann. Lastly, sixth singles was taken by freshman Jillian Pagliuca (Taunton, Mass.), 6-2, 6-3, against Autumn Tamlyn.

The Ravens will be back at it on Thursday, Oct. 10, when they will face Saint Anselm at home in an NE10 match at 2:30 p.m., weather permitting.
