RINDGE, N.H. (September 17, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team took to its home court for the first time in 2019-20 on Tuesday afternoon, but came up on the short end of a 6-1 decision against visiting Le Moyne in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-2 (1-2 NE10), while Le Moyne improves to 3-0 (1-0 NE10).

Le Moyne opened play with wins in two of the three doubles matches to lay claim to the doubles point. Franklin Pierce picked up a win at first doubles, where graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and freshman Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) notched a 6-2 victory over Le Moyne sophomore Birdem Oz and freshman Francesca Lilliegren.

The Dolphins bounced back with wins at both second and third doubles. Second doubles was a hotly-contested affair, with the Le Moyne pair of juniors Marta Nunez and Rebecca Peters grinding out a 7-6 win over freshmen Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain) and Jazmin Flood (Laredo, Texas). At third doubles, it was a 6-0 sweep for freshman Marta Perez Fernandez and sophomore Brooke Fernandez over senior Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) and freshman Jillian Pagliuca (Taunton, Mass.).

In singles play, Franklin Pierce picked up its lone point with a three-set win at second singles, as Loria scratched out a 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 victory over Nunez.

Both first and third singles needed three sets to decide as well, though first singles featured a tiebreak set after the team match was decided, while third singles featured a full third set. Both went to Le Moyne, as Oz notched a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) win over Mor at first singles, while Lilliegren rallied past Alvarez Tello at third singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Le Moyne was dominant in the lower half of singles play. Peters swept away Rich at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0, while Perez Fernandez did the same to Pagliuca at fifth singles. In the pro-set format at third singles, Brooke Fernandez notched an 8-2 win over Flood.

The Ravens return to the court on Thursday, Sept. 19, when they remain home to host Rhode Island College in a non-conference match at 5:30 p.m. in Rindge.
