WORCESTER, Mass. (October 12, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on the road on Friday afternoon, 6-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference match at Assumption.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-11 (2-8 NE10), while Assumption improves to 8-3 (7-3 NE10).

Assumption took home wins in all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point to open play on Friday. Senior Shelli Safran (Boxborough, Mass.) and junior Kelly O'Donnell (Maywood, N.J.) provided the stiffest opposition for the Ravens, at third doubles, where they dropped a 6-3 decision to Assumption sophomores Veronica Op and Valeria Sanchez.

Franklin Pierce's lone point of the day came from the most-competitive of the six singles matches on the docket. At second singles, freshman Grayson LaCroix (Cherry Valley, Mass.) split the first two sets with senior Paige Benoit. With the team match already decided, the two played a 10-point tiebreaker rather than a third set, and LaCroix ultimately pulled out a 6-4, 3-6, 10-4 victory.

Assumption won each of the other five singles matches to create the 6-1 final in the team match.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 13, when they return home to host Southern New Hampshire in an NE10 match at 1 p.m. in Rindge.
