MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 30, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on the road on Sunday afternoon, 5-2, at Saint Anselm in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-6 (2-3 NE10), while Saint Anselm improves to 3-7 (2-5 NE10).

Saint Anselm took two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point to open play. The point wound up hinging on a very tight first doubles match, where Saint Anselm senior Tess Malerbi and junior Kaitlin Hughes pulled out a 7-5 win over Franklin Pierce juniors Alana Wyatt (Worcester, Mass.) and Brigid Washburn (Greentown, Pa.). Franklin Pierce picked up a win along the way at second doubles, as freshman Grayson LaCroix (Cherry Valley, Mass.) and junior Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) doubled up senior Lexi Stathis and freshman Emily Jacy, 6-3.

Saint Anselm also picked up wins in four of the six singles matches to claim the 5-2 victory. The only three-set contest of the six came at fourth singles, where Jacy battled to a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win over Washburn.

The other five singles matches went in straight sets, with the Ravens picking up points at first and third singles. At first singles, Wyatt bested Malerbi, 6-4, 6-0. At third singles, Rich posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Stathis.

The Ravens return to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 2, when they return home to host Merrimack in an NE10 match at 3 p.m. in Rindge.
