Women’s Tennis Shutout at Colby, 9-0

WATERVILLE, Maine (March 10, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its season on the road on Saturday afternoon, as it fell to Colby, 9-0, in non-conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-15, while Colby opens its season at 1-0.

Franklin Pierce had only five healthy players available, which meant it opened the day in a 2-0 hole, after surrendering matches at third doubles and sixth singles.

The most competitive match of the afternoon came at fifth singles, where junior Shelli Safran (Boxborough, Mass.) picked up four games, but dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Colby junior Emily Dyckman.

Junior Gabriela Venditti led the way for Colby on the day with wins at both first doubles and first singles. She teamed with twin sister Lydia Venditti for an 8-1 win at first doubles, before notching a 6-3, 6-0 win at first singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Monday, March 19, when they travel to Eckerd for a 10 a.m. match in St. Petersburg, Fla., as part of a three-match spring break trip to the Sunshine State.
