Women’s Tennis Falls to Saint Michael’s, 7-2

RINDGE, N.H. (September 25, 2016) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 7-2, on Sunday afternoon at home against Saint Michael's, in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-8 (2-7 Northeast-10), while Saint Michael's improves to 5-4 (4-3 Northeast-10).

Franklin Pierce's two points on the day came at third singles and sixth singles. At third singles, senior Kara Brazel (Glastonbury, Conn.) picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Saint Michael's senior Colleen O'Keefe. At sixth singles, junior Maria Quagliano (Branford, Conn.) needed a tiebreaker set to pull out a 1-6, 6-3, 10-5 victory over sophomore Melissa Collins.

Elsewhere, freshman Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) got locked in a barnburner at fourth singles. She went back and forth with junior Amelia Weeks, with the latter ultimately pulling out a 7-6 (5), 3-6, 7-5 victory.

Earlier in the day, the match at third doubles went the distance. Eventually, Saint Michael's senior Riley Kruger and sophomore Katie Costa pulled out a 9-8 (6) victory over Rich and freshman Kelly O'Donnell (Maywood, N.J.).

The Ravens return to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 27, when they travel to Assumption for a Northeast-10 match at 3:30 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.
