Women’s Tennis Downed by Roberts Wesleyan, 9-0

Ravens host Le Moyne on Sunday

RINDGE, N.H. (September 12, 2015) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on Saturday afternoon, 9-0, by Roberts Wesleyan in non-conference play at Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-2 (0-1 Northeast-10), while Roberts Wesleyan improves to 2-0 (0-0 East Coast).

Sophomore Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) made the biggest impact for Franklin Pierce across Saturday's six singles matches. Paired against sophomore Natalia Cardona, Rodrigues picked up a couple games in each set, but ultimately dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision.

For Roberts Wesleyan, each of its six players came away with wins in both singles and doubles play on Saturday. Cardona led the way for the Redhawks, with wins at both first singles and first doubles. Prior to her aforementioned triumph at first singles, she teamed with freshman Tiffany Hamdan for an 8-2 win at first doubles against Rodrigues and senior Kirby Melbourne (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.).

The Ravens return to the court on Sunday, Sept. 13, when they remain home to host Le Moyne in a Northeast-10 Conference contest at 11 a.m. in Rindge.
