Women’s Tennis Downed at Bentley, 9-0

Ravens host AIC on Sunday

Rodgers WALTHAM, Mass. (September 27, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, by Bentley on Saturday in Northeast-10 Conference play at Bentley.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-6 (0-6 Northeast-10), while Bentley improves to 2-3 (2-3 Northeast-10).

Bentley swept its way to the victory on Saturday, but Franklin Pierce's first doubles team had other ideas and nearly pulled out a point early in the day. The duo of junior Kirby Melbourne (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) and freshman Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) held their own against Bentley junior Ludmila Yamus and sophomore Rachel Petrini, but ultimately fell, 8-5.

In singles play, it was senior Leslie Rodgers (Westminster, Md.) who came closest to taking a point for the Ravens, as she locked horns with Petrini at third singles. Petrini won in straight sets, but Rodgers was competitive in each, as the former came away with a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

In all, four different Bentley players posted wins in both singles and doubles play on Saturday, led by Yamus, who won at both first singles and first doubles. After teaming with Petrini for the win at first doubles, she rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 win at first singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Sunday, Sept. 28, when they return home to host American International in a Northeast-10 Conference match at noon in Rindge.
