Boulanger earns first singles win of season

Boulanger Boulanger picked her first singles victory of the season on Thursday vs. SNHU, with an 8-6 triumph at sixth singles.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 3, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 8-1, by Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference play on Thursday afternoon at Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-5 (0-5 Northeast-10), while Southern New Hampshire, last year's Northeast-10 runner-up, improves to 5-0 (4-0 Northeast-10).

Franklin Pierce's lone point on the afternoon came at sixth singles, where junior Christine Boulanger (East Hampton, Conn.) picked up her first singles victory of the season. Playing in the pro-set format since the team match was already decided, she bettered SNHU sophomore Allison Valentine, 8-6. Boulanger teamed with freshman Lyla Austin (Rindge, N.H.) to put up a fight at third doubles earlier in the day, but the duo ultimately fell, 8-4, at the hands of Valentine and sophomore Elizabeth Worth.

Outside of Valentine, all five remaining SNHU players picked up victories in both singles and doubles play on Thursday, led by junior Diana Vamvakitis, who was an All-Northeast-10 First Team selection a year ago. Vamvakitis did not drop a game all day, as she swept through both of her matches. She teamed with junior Jamie Hann for an 8-0 win at first doubles before rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Sunday, Oct. 20, when they round out the fall portion of their schedule by traveling to Saint Rose for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 1 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
