Women’s Tennis Falls at Le Moyne, 8-1

Ravens off until March 26 at Saint Anselm

McCarthy McCarthy teamed with Parrett to pick up a point for Franklin Pierce at Le Moyne on Saturday.

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (March 1, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 8-1, at Le Moyne in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-7 (1-7 Northeast-10), while Le Moyne improves to 2-11 (1-7 Northeast-10).

The Ravens picked up their one point on the day at first doubles, courtesy senior Natasha McCarthy (Rindge, N.H.) and junior Emily Parrett (Amherst, N.H.). The duo was able to squeak out an 8-6 win over Le Moyne freshman Christina Perry and junior Jessica Geary.

In singles play, junior Leslie Rodgers (Westminster, Md.) mounted a fight for Franklin Pierce at fourth doubles, where she squared off with Geary. Geary took the opening set, 6-3, before Rodgers stormed back with a 6-2 win in the second set. The tiebreak stayed close before Geary pulled out the 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 win.

Four different Le Moyne players picked up wins in both singles and doubles play on Saturday, led by senior Kristine Kenny, who was victorious in both second doubles and second singles. In doubles play, she teamed with sophomore Allison Jones to pick up an 8-5 win. In singles play, Kenny rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win.

The Ravens return to the court on Wednesday, March 26, when they travel to Saint Anselm for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 3:30 p.m.
