Ravens host Plymouth State on Thursday

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (October 6, 2012) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, on the road at Adelphi on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-5 (0-5 Northeast-10), while Adelphi improves to 3-0 (2-0 Northeast-10).

Adelphi surrendered just nine games across the afternoon's nine matches on the way to the sweep. Freshman Aubrey Lovejoy (Holden, Mass.) was in on four of the nine games that went the Ravens' way. She matched up with Adelphi senior Samra Redzematovic at fourth singles and was defeated, 6-2, 6-1. Earlier in the day, Lovejoy teamed with senior Melissa Cohen (Queens, N.Y.) at second doubles to take on Redzematovic and senior Michelle Gurda. The Panther pair took the match, 8-1.

All told, five different Panthers won in both doubles and singles play on Saturday afternoon, led by senior Maria Toft. She dropped just three games while following up an 8-1 win at first doubles (with sophomore Bianca Posa) with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at first singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Thursday, Oct. 11, when they return home to host Plymouth State in a non-conference match at 3 p.m. in Rindge, N.H.
