Ravens host Bentley on Wednesday

EASTON, Mass. (September 14, 2012) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, on the road at Stonehill in Northeast-10 Conference play on Friday afternoon.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-2 (0-2 Northeast-10), while Stonehill, ranked fifth in the East Region, opens the season at 1-0 (1-0 Northeast-10).

Stonehill would surrender just 15 games to the Ravens over the afternoon's nine matches. The Skyhawks were especially impressive in the doubles competition, where they dropped only one game across three matches.

In singles play, it would be freshman Kirby Melbourne (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) who provided the most resistance on Franklin Pierce's behalf. She squared off with Stonehill freshman Analise Kump at second singles, and was ultimately defeated, 6-1, 6-3. Three other Franklin Pierce players took three games each in singles play: senior Melissa Cohen (Queens, N.Y.), freshman Aubrey Lovejoy (Holden, Mass.) and sophomore Leslie Rodgers (Westminster, Md.) at third, fourth and fifth singles, respectively.

Five different Stonehill players were victorious in both singles and doubles play on Friday, led by freshman Bailey Paradiso, who lost just one game while rolling to wins in the first flights of both singles and doubles. She teamed with senior Paige Frost for an 8-0 win at first doubles before picking up a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Wednesday, Sept. 19, when they return home to host Bentley in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 2 p.m. in Rindge.
