Ravens travel to Stonehill on Friday

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 13, 2012) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, on the road at Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference play on Thursday afternoon. The match was the 2012-13 season opener for both teams.

The three-time defending Northeast-10 Conference champion, SNHU dropped just 13 games over the day's nine matches on its way to the shutout victory. Junior Natasha McCarthy (Rindge, N.H.) was among those to put up the biggest fight on the day for Franklin Pierce. She teamed with sophomore Leslie Rodgers (Westminster, Md.) at second doubles and the pair hung close before ultimately falling, 8-4.

Later, at first singles, McCarthy drew perhaps the toughest assignment a Raven will face all year, as she squared off with the reigning Northeast-10 Player of the Year, SNHU senior Alena Mukdaprakorn. McCarthy made her presence felt by hanging around in the first set before eventually falling, 6-3, 6-0. Freshman Aubrey Lovejoy (Holden, Mass.) collected a handful of games for Franklin Pierce as well, in her collegiate debut, as she dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to junior Kirsten Jean at fourth singles.

Each of SNHU's six players won both their singles and doubles matches on Thursday afternoon. Sophomore Diana Vamvakitis proved the most dominant, as she teamed with Mukdaprakorn for an 8-0 win at first doubles before posting a shutout win at second singles as well, 6-0, 6-0.

The Ravens return to the court on Friday, Sept. 14, when they travel to Stonehill for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 3 p.m. in Easton, Mass.
