COLCHESTER, Vt. (April 14, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated, 9-0, by Saint Michael's in Northeast-10 Conference play at Saint Michael's on Sunday.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce completes its season at 4-10 (2-10 Northeast-10), while Saint Michael's improves to 11-4 (10-2 Northeast-10) heading into the Northeast-10 Championship. The match concludes the debut season of Head Coach Marty Morrissey, who led the team to a one-win improvement over the 2011-12 season.

Saint Michael's took all three doubles points on the way to the sweep, with the first and second doubles teams having the best showings for Franklin Pierce. At first doubles, junior Natasha McCarthy (Rindge, N.H.) and sophomore Emily Parrett (Amherst, N.H.) fell to seniors Emily Magee and Jean-Marie McGrath, 8-3. By the same score at second doubles, freshman Kirby Melbourne (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) and sophomore Leslie Rodgers (Westminster, Md.) fell to senior Alex Dalton and sophomore Caroline Martin.

In singles play, Saint Michael's dropped only eight games on the way to winning all six matches. In all, five Purple Knights finished off a two-win day, led by Magee, who put away McCarthy at first singles, 6-2, 6-0, to go with her doubles win from earlier.

Of note for Franklin Pierce, senior Melissa Cohen (Queens, N.Y.) played in her final collegiate match, as she took the court at third doubles and fifth singles for the Ravens.
