Krolikowski, McCarthy sweep doubles and singles matches

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 9, 2012) – Senior Kaitlin Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore Natasha McCarthy (Rindge, N.H.) teamed up to sweep their doubles match on Monday afternoon after each swept a singles match as well, to lead the Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team to an 8-1 victory over American International in Northeast-10 Conference play at AIC.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 3-9 (3-8 Northeast-10), while American International falls to 0-11 (0-10 Northeast-10).

In the top five singles matches, Franklin Pierce surrendered just five games while taking all five points. The Ravens swept through the top three singles matches, 6-0, 6-0: McCarthy bettered senior Amanda McLean at first singles, Krolikowski downed freshman Margaret Barnstein at second singles and junior Melissa Cohen (Queens, N.Y.) shutout senior Taila de Souza at third singles. Meanwhile, at fourth singles, senior Nikki Chalifoux (Lebanon, Conn.) posted a 6-0, 6-3 win over freshman Jasmine Byrd, and senior Mariama Bonetti (New York, N.Y.) downed sophomore Edna Olowo at fifth singles, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles play, the Ravens picked up another point by default at third doubles and then swept the top two doubles flights, winning 8-0 at each. In first doubles, Krolikowski and McCarthy joined to defeat McLean and senior Jessica Hall, while Bonetti and freshman Leslie Rodgers (Westminster, Md.) swept Byrd and Olowo at second doubles.

Hall picked up the lone point for American International with a 6-4, 6-4 win at sixth singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Wednesday, April 11, when they travel to Bentley for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 2 p.m.
