Ravens back in action against Stonehill on Sept. 29

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (September 19, 2010) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated by Adelphi, 9-0, in Northeast-10 Conference play at Adelphi on Sunday. With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 0-2 (0-2 Northeast-10), while Adelphi improves to 3-0 (1-0 Northeast-10) with the victory.

Junior Drew Alexander (Long Beach, N.Y.) had one of the strongest showings of the day for the Ravens, though she was defeated, 8-4 in the pro set format, at fifth singles by Adelphi freshman Taylor King. Earlier in the day, Alexander teamed with senior Lauren Smilovich (Meriden, Conn.) at second doubles, though they fell, 8-1.

Adelphi had 10 different players win at least one match on Sunday, including a pair of players who won at both singles and doubles. Senior Alda Ribeiro led the charge for the Panthers, as she teamed with sophomore Maria Toft to post an 8-1 win at first doubles before picking up a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at second singles.

The Ravens return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 29, when they hold their first home match of the season, against Stonehill at 3 p.m. in Rindge.
