Women’s Tennis Downed By Adelphi, 8-1

Alexander and Smilovich team to earn doubles victory

Lauren Smilovich Lauren Smilovich teamed with Drew Alexander to post a 9-7 win at second doubles against Adelphi on Saturday afternoon.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 17, 2009) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s tennis team was defeated, 8-1, by Adelphi in Northeast-10 Conference play at Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Franklin Pierce concludes the fall portion of its schedule at 0-6 (0-6 Northeast-10).

The lone point of the day for the Ravens came at second doubles. Sophomore Drew Alexander (Long Beach, N.Y.) and junior Lauren Smilovich (Meriden, Conn.) teamed to defeat senior Kristina Radeva and junior Jamie Sussman of Adelphi, 9-7. In first doubles, Franklin Pierce’s team of sophomores Suzana Deronjic (Melrose, Mass.) and Kaitlin Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) put forward a solid effort before falling, 8-6.

Both Krolikowski and Smilovich put together the best Franklin Pierce efforts of singles play, as they were defeated, 6-2, 6-2, at first and third singles, respectively.

Adelphi freshman Michelle Gurda was the lone Panther victorious in both singles and doubles on the afternoon. She won at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-0, then teamed with junior Nicole Byrnes to post an 8-6 win at first singles.
