Womens Tennis Dropped By Saint Rose, 8-1
LaPointe picks up singles win for Ravens
Bianca LaPointe picked up a win at fourth singles at Saint Rose on
Saturday afternoon.

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 10,
2009) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s
tennis team was defeated, 8-1, by Saint Rose in Northeast-10
Conference play at Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon. With the win,
Saint Rose improves to 1-6 (1-5 Northeast-10), while Franklin
Pierce falls to 0-4 (0-4 Northeast-10) with the loss. Senior
Bianca LaPointe (Plainfield, Conn.) picked up the
lone point of the day for the Ravens.
LaPointe notched the only win of the afternoon for Franklin Pierce
in fourth singles. She defeated Saint Rose junior Kimberly
Schacher, 6-3, 6-4. Though they were swept in doubles and won only
five games across three matches, the Ravens held their own in
several singles matches. Junior Lauren Smilovich (Meriden,
Conn.) battled through the first set against Saint Rose
junior Missy Leighton in second singles before falling, 7-5, 6-2.
Junior Misty Start (Thomaston, Maine) forced a
tiebreak in the first set of the sixth singles match, but was
eventually clipped by Saint Rose sophomore Stephanie Belz, 7-5
(7-2), 6-1.
In all, four Saint Rose players were victorious in both singles and
doubles play on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights were led by
freshman Jennifer Crego, who teamed with Schacher in an 8-1 win at
second doubles before powering through a 6-1, 6-1 victory at first
singles.
The Ravens return to action on Friday, Oct. 16, when they return
home to host New Haven in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 4:30
p.m. in Rindge, N.H.
