Ravens back in action against Merrimack on Sunday

RINDGE, N.H. (April 10, 2010) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated by Assumption, 9-0, in Northeast-10 Conference play at Assumption on Saturday. With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-9 (1-9 Northeast-10), while Assumption improves to 4-6 (4-5 Northeast-10) with the victory.

Sophomore Suzana Deronjic (Melrose, Mass.) posted one of the strongest singles performances for Franklin Pierce on the day. She won the first set, 6-2, in second singles against Assumption freshman Erica Micciche, but dropped the second set, 6-3, and the tiebreak, 10-7. A similar fate befell Franklin Pierce junior Lauren Smilovich (Meriden, Conn.) who took the first set in third singles from Assumption junior Grace Fox, 6-2, but lost the second set, 6-0, and the tiebreak, 10-8. Earlier in the day, Smilovich teamed with senior Bianca LaPointe (Plainfield, Conn.) at second doubles, but fell to Fox and Assumption sophomore Marissa Charles, 8-5.

Each of Assumption's six players was victorious in both singles and doubles on the afternoon. Freshman Allie Plack lost just one game on the afternoon, as she picked up an 8-1 win at third doubles before sweeping her match at sixth singles, 6-0, 6-0.

The Ravens return to the court on Sunday, April 11, when they return home to host Merrimack in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 1 p.m. in Rindge, N.H.
