Women’s Tennis Downed by Le Moyne, 7-2

Deronjic, Lavertu pick up singles wins

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (February 27, 2010) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s tennis team was defeated by Le Moyne, 7-2, in Northeast-10 Conference play at Le Moyne on Saturday. With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 1-7 (1-7 Northeast-10), while Le Moyne improves to 2-4 (2-2 Northeast-10) with the victory. Sophomore Suzana Deronjic (Melrose, Mass.) and senior Monica Lavertu (Berlin, N.H.) each picked up wins in singles play for Franklin Pierce.

Lavertu put together the strongest singles performance for the Ravens on the afternoon, as she posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Le Moyne freshman Tracy Adler at fifth singles. Meanwhile, Deronjic gutted out a win of her own in three sets at second singles. She defeated Le Moyne sophomore Caroline Tisdell, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

Le Moyne dropped just five games while sweeping through the three doubles matches and three Dolphins picked up wins in both singles and doubles. Freshman Rebecca Black posted one of the strongest showings of the day for Le Moyne. She teamed with junior Megan Andolina for an 8-2 victory in third doubles and later chalked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at fourth singles.

The Ravens return to the court on Wednesday, April 7, when they return home to host Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 4 p.m. in Rindge, N.H.
