Women’s Tennis Slips by Pace, 5-4
Deronjic posts points in both doubles and singles

Monica Lavertu and the Ravens defeated Pace, 5-4, in East
Hartford, Conn. on Sunday.RINDGE, N.H. (February 14,
2010) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s
tennis team defeated Pace, 5-4, in Northeast-10 Conference play in
East Hartford, Conn. on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Suzana
Deronjic (Melrose, Mass.) led the way for Franklin Pierce
with wins in both first doubles and second singles. With the
victory, Franklin Pierce improves to 1-6 (1-6 Northeast-10), while
Pace opens the season 0-1 (0-1 Northeast-10) after not competing in
the fall portion of the season.
In first doubles, Deronjic teamed with fellow sophomore
Kaitlin Krolikowski (Massapequa, N.Y.) to power
past senior Joanna-Theresa Augustine and freshman Danielle Sidoti
of Pace, 8-2. The Ravens were also victorious in third doubles,
where senior Monica Lavertu (Berlin, N.H.) and
junior Misty Start (Thomaston, Maine) posted an
8-4 triumph over Pace freshmen Daniella Gore and Ashley Winuk.
Deronjic made a sweep of her day in second singles, as she led
Sidoti, 6-0, 5-0, before the Pace player retired. The Ravens then
put away the contest with wins at both third and fourth singles. In
third singles, junior Lauren Smilovich (Meriden,
Conn.) blew past Pace sophomore Yomara Lopez, 6-1, 6-0. At
fourth singles, sophomore Drew Alexander (Long Beach,
N.Y.) pulled out a three-set victory, 6-1, 1-6, 6-0.
Senior Rebecca Aaron-Albanese was the only player to pick up two
points for Pace, as she won at both second doubles and fifth
singles.
The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 27, when they
travel to Le Moyne for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 4:30 p.m.
in Syracuse, N.Y.
