SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 2, 2009) - Franklin Pierce University picked up its second win of the season with a 7-2 victory over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action this afternoon.

Sophomore Lauren Smilovich (Meriden, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) led Franklin Pierce to victory as she picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles after teaming up with freshman Drew Alexander (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) for an 8-2 triumph at No. 2 doubles. Alexander was also a double-winner for the Ravens, notching a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles. Junior Bianca LaPointe (Plainfield, Conn./Saint Bernard) chipped in with a 6-0, 6-1 decision at fourth singles.

Senior Sarah Pfefferkorn (Ludlow, Mass./Ludlow) was a double-winner for American International, posting a 6-2, 6-3 win at first singles after combining with classmate Taylor Rockefeller (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) for an 8-4 decision at first doubles.

Franklin Pierce (2-6, 2-5 NE-10) is back in action on Sunday when it visits Le Moyne College. The Ravens return home on Thursday, April 9, to host Southern New Hampshire University at 2 p.m. American International (0-7, 0-6 NE-10) hosts Southern New Hampshire on Saturday at 1 p.m.
