Zahora Earns Spot on NE-10 All-Academic Team

New Ringgold, Pa., native earns her first career spot on the second team

Mariana Zahora has been named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic Second Team.

RINDGE, N.H. (May 6, 2008) - Sophomore Mariana Zahora (New Ringgold, Pa./Tamaqua) of the Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was named to the Northeast-10 Conference All-Academic second team, the conference office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

To be eligible for selection to the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must have participated in at least half of her team's competitions as a starter or significant contributor, achieved at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale, and have completed at least one academic year at her current institution.

Zahora, an accounting major at Franklin Pierce, has achieved a 3.62 cumulative grade point average while at the school. Her GPA was the highest among the six athletes on the All-Academic second team and was the fourth-highest among all 12 women's tennis All-Academic honorees.

Zahora played in 14 singles matches, including 13 at second singles, for Franklin Pierce last season, while also splitting time between the first and second doubles flights. In two years with the Ravens women's tennis team, Zahora has played at all six singles flights, amassing a career record of 1-22, while also going 1-12 in first and second doubles action.

Franklin Pierce finished the 2007-08 season with an overall record of 0-15, including an 0-12 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference.
