ORLANDO, Fla. (March 16,
2008) – The University of South Dakota earned its
sixth consecutive victory with a 9-0 win over Franklin Pierce
University in non-conference women’s tennis action on
Saturday afternoon in Orlando, Fla.
All six players for South Dakota earned singles and doubles
victories on the day. The team was led by sophomores Rijalda Zejnic
(Hamilton, Ontario/Stephen F. Austin) and Maggie Peters (West Des
Moines, Iowa/Drake University), who combined for an 8-2 victory at
first doubles and then earned first and third singles wins,
respectively. Zejnic defeated freshman Lauren Smilovich
(Meriden, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy), 6-3, 6-0, while
Peters took down Raven sophomore Bianca LaPointe
(Plainfield, Conn./Saint Bernard), 6-1, 6-0.
Franklin Pierce (0-6, 0-5 NE-10) will continue its Spring Break
trip tomorrow, when the Ravens take on Hamline University in
Orlando, Fla., beginning at noon. South Dakota (12-4) takes on
Salve Regina University later today.
