Women's Soccer: Ravens Fall to Pace 0-3

Article written by student-staff writer Colin Struckman

RINDGE, N.H. (10/14/2023) -- The Franklin Pierce women's soccer team couldn't handle the Pace Setters on Saturday night at Sodexo Field, after the team was shutout 3-0.

With the loss, the Ravens drop to 3-4-4 (2-3-1 NE-10). With the road victory, the Setters improve to 7-4-1 (3-3-1 NE-10).

The first half was a back-and-forth affair between both teams, with quality scoring chances on both sides. The Setters were able to break free from the Ravens in the 31st minute from an impressive dish by Jillian Joe to Andrea Flores, who buried a shot from outside the box to take a 1-0 lead for Pace into the halftime break.

The Setters picked up right where they left off in the second half. Ava Viebrock split the Ravens defense for a breakaway and tucked it past Emilie Fox (Bridgewater, Mass.) to put the Setters ahead 2-0 in the 45th minute.

The best scoring chance for the Ravens came in the 57th minute after a yellow card was issued to Pace's Hildur Unnarsdotti. A penalty kick was awarded to the Ravens, but they couldn't capitalize as Roos Monsma (Hoofddorp, Netherlands) fired a shot off the crossbar.

Down by a pair, the Ravens couldn't afford any mental lapses. Unfortunately, Emilie Fox turned the ball over right to Ava Viebrock who found a streaking Allison Carr for the easy tap-in finish, giving the Setters a commanding 3-0 lead in the 62nd minute.

Emilie Fox suffered the loss in net for the Ravens, making 7 saves on 10 shots. Alexandra White (Coventry, R.I.) made her collegiate appearance in relief of Fox but didn't register a save. Anna Fiore picked up the shutout victory in net for the Setters, turning aside all 11 shots she faced.

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens return to action at home at Sodexo Field on Wednesday October, 14th to face-off against Adelphi with kick-off slated for 4:00 PM.
