Women's Soccer: Ravens Possess Majority of the Time but go Scoreless in 2-0 Loss to St. Anselm

Written by Director of Athletic Communications Luke Tracy

Franklin Pierce women's soccer fell to .500 on the season Wednesday night after a 2-0 loss to conference opponent St. Anselm College.

With the loss, the Ravens move on with a 3-3-4 (2-2-1, NE10) record. With the win, the Hawks advance to 6-3-3 (5-2-0, NE10) on the season.

The Ravens battled the entire game and possessed the ball more than 60-percent of the game, but only took four shots the entire game and ultimately failed to find the back of the net.

Where the Ravens struggled, the Hawks excelled burying two goals on four shots on net. The first goal for St. Anselm came in the 20th minute. After a throw in near midfield, St. Anselm senior backer Delaney Glode kicked a pass deep into the Ravens defensive zone to Josie Pecor or grabbed control of the ball in the middle of the box. After a quick battle for the ball, Pecor pushed ahead into the goalie crease and fired a shot by Franklin Pierce junior goaltender Emilee Fox (Bridgewater, Mass.).

Neither team scored until the 55th minute when the Hawks tackled on another goal and went up 2-0. From deep in their own defensive zone, the Ravens tried to clear the ball with strong pressure from the Hawks. While trotting up the middle of the field, the Ravens lost control of the ball which was quickly picked up by St. Anselm's Pecor ,who scored the first goal of the game. Pecor hit a quick pass to a cutting Olivia Gotobed who pushed towards the right goal post. Hitting the breaks and cutting left she made one defender miss and opened up a wide open one-on-one opportunity with Fox. Planting her foot, Gotobed drilled in the second and final goal of the game.

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS: The Ravens continue their streak of home games on Saturday September 14, when the team will face off against Pace at 6 P.M.
