Late Goal Sinks Women’s Soccer at Pace, 1-0

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (October 14, 2017) – Despite posting a 16-8 edge in shot attempts, the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team saw the game's only goal scored at the other end of the field at Pace Stadium on Saturday night. A 76th-minute strike from junior forward Victoria Kealy was the difference, as Pace dealt the Ravens a 1-0 defeat in Northeast-10 Conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 7-3-2 (6-3-2 NE10), while Pace improves to 7-6-1 (6-3-1 NE10). Despite the shots advantage for the Ravens, both teams tallied five shots on goal, and Pace held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

After the first hour and change went scoreless, Pace struck for the game's only goal in the 76th minute. Senior midfielder Ariel Almodovar provided the cross from the right side, and Kealy got her head to it to put away her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Franklin Pierce would collect two shots on goal over the final minutes, after the Kealy goal, but Pace senior goalkeeper Hayley Pascoal turned both attempts aside.

Senior goalkeeper Casey Cook (Beverly, Mass.) finished with five saves against six shots on goal and suffered the loss (7-3-2) in net for Franklin Pierce. Pascoal (6-4-1) stopped all four shots on her goal to pick up the win for Pace and post her fourth shutout of the season.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Oct, 21, when they travel to Adelphi for an NE10 contest. Opening kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Motamed Field in Garden City, N.Y.
