Women’s Soccer Plays to 0-0 Draw at Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (September 20, 2016) – Ninety minutes was not enough at Martone-Mejail Field on Tuesday night, and neither was 110 minutes. Neither the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team, nor its counterpart from Merrimack could find the net in a Northeast-10 Conference contest, as the two played to a 0-0 draw.

With the tie, Franklin Pierce moves to 3-1-1 (1-1-1 Northeast-10), while Merrimack now stands at 3-1-2 (1-1-2 Northeast-10).

Perhaps the best chance for each side to find the net came in extra time. In the first overtime, in the 97th minute, junior goalkeeper Casey Cook (Beverly, Mass.) came up with a save to keep the game scoreless, as she thwarted a free kick from Merrimack junior forward Sarah Boucher. Later, in the second overtime, in the 109th minute, the Ravens had a free kick of their own, from 25 yards out. Sophomore Nathalia Maria da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) took the kick, but put her shot low and wide of the net on the left side.

Over the course of 110 minutes, Franklin Pierce held a 22-13 advantage in shot attempts and a 7-6 margin in corner kicks. Despite trailing in shot attempts, Merrimack enjoyed a 9-4 edge in shots on goal.

Cook (3-1-1) finished with nine saves to post her second shutout of the season. At the other end of the field, junior goalkeeper Molly Meehan (3-1-2) made four saves to pick up her third shutout of the year.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 24, when they travel to Southern Connecticut State for a Northeast-10 contest. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn.
