Women’s Soccer Falls Behind Early, Can’t Recover in 3-1 Loss at Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y (October 28, 2015) -- Junior forward Yasmin Civan (Antalya, Turkey) scored a late goal on Wednesday afternoon for the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team, but it was not enough to help the Ravens, who suffered a 3-1 loss at Ted Grant Field in a Northeast-10 Conference match.

After this afternoon's loss, the Ravens record falls to 7-9-0 overall and 4-9-0 in the Northeast-10, while Le Moyne improves to 4-11-1 overall and 3-9-1 in conference.

The Dolphins were able to get on the board first with a goal by junior forward Rachel Terry. She received a pass from the left side and sent it in from 19 yards out, while sophomore back Alexis Kline picked up an assist on the play.

Franklin Pierce put two shots on goal in the first half, before heading into halftime still facing the 1-0 deficit.

The Dolphins were able to double their lead early in the second half, when senior forward Kelly Ristoff finished off a pass from sophomore midfielder Samantha Ciulla in the 64th minute. Ristoff tucked the ball into the right corner from the top of the box.

A corner kick in the 84th minute allowed Le Moyne to threaten again, and it ultimately capitalized on the opportunity when sophomore forward Kristen Colegrove put home a header from one yard out. Ciulla picked up an assist on the play after taking the corner, while Terry added another assist by heading the ball along to Colegrove.

Franklin Pierce's only answer to the 3-0 lead of the Dolphins came in the 87th minute, as freshman forward Nathalia Maria da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) took a corner kick. In the goalmouth scramble after the corner kick, Civan found the ball first and put it away from three yards out.

Franklin Pierce was able to attempt six total shots on day, while Le Moyne attempted 12. Ravens sophomore keeper Casey Cook (Beverly, Mass.) made four saves as her record falls to 4-5-0. Le Moyne senior Tori Corsaro needed just one save to improve to 4-11-1.

The Ravens return home on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. and play host to Saint Michael's for the final game of the season.
