Women’s Soccer Falls at Adelphi, 3-0

Ravens host AIC on Tuesday

Garden City, N.Y. (October 17, 2015) -- Adelphi University was able to put a goal home early on Saturday and take lead it would hold against the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team. The first-half goal ultimately led to a 3-0 victory for the Panthers in Northeast-10 Conference play at Motamed Field.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce drops to 6-6-0 overall and 4-6-0 in the conference, while Adelphi improves to 10-2-2 overall and 8-0-2 in the NE-10.

During the first half of play, Franklin Pierce was able to take five shots, but was not able to break through the Panthers defense. The first goal of the game was in the 29th minute, when junior forward Laura Gomez took her shot from just outside the box and finished to the upper-left corner.

After halftime, two quick goals by the Panthers stretched the lead. In the 52nd minute, junior midfielder Victoria Antonino received a pass off of a rebound and was able to send it to the back of the net. Senior midfielder Kelsey Malles picked up the assist on the play.

The third and final Panther goal was in the 55th minute by Malles, when she turned another rebound into a goal.

Franklin Pierce took a total of nine shots to Adelphi's 24, with the Ravens putting three shots on net, against 14 for the Panthers. Franklin Pierce senior keeper Katie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) made 11 saves on the night and is now 2-3-0 on the season. For Adelphi, freshman Anne Marie Ulliac (10-2-2) stopped all three shots she faced for her seventh shutout of the season.

The Ravens return home Oct. 20, when they play host to American International at 6 p.m. on Sodexo Field.
