Talita Pereira scores on second-half PK

WORCESTER, Mass. (November 7, 2014) – Freshman goalkeeper Casey Cook (Beverly, Mass.) made seven saves on Friday night, but it would not be enough, as the fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team was clipped, 2-1, by top-seeded Assumption in the semifinal round of the Northeast-10 Championship at Multi-Sport Stadium. Junior midfielder Paige Radomski scored both goals in the victory for Assumption.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce sees its season draw to a close at 11-6-1, while Assumption improves to 15-3-1. The Greyhounds will host second-seeded and defending Northeast-10 champion Saint Rose on Sunday in the title game.

Assumption put home the first half's only goal, in the 42nd minute, with just 3:29 remaining until halftime. Sent into the goalmouth on a corner kick, the ball was deflected in front of the net, but wound up on the head of Radomski, who directed it into the goal for her team-leading 14th goal of the season.

On the other side of halftime, Franklin Pierce was able to equalize in the 74th minute. The Ravens were awarded a penalty kick, which was taken by senior forward Talita Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil). She salted it away for her team-leading eighth goal of the campaign.

The level score would be short-lived however, as Assumption found the eventual game-winner just nine seconds later. Radomski quickly found herself with space to shoot in the offensive end and put her second goal of the night into the upper-left corner to give the Greyhounds a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.

Cook finished with seven saves, but suffered the loss (9-6-1) between the pipes for Franklin Pierce. Senior goalkeeper Rachel Edgin made four saves to pick up the win (15-3-1) in net for Assumption.
