Vieira Nets Senior Day Goal, Women’s Soccer Blanks Le Moyne, 3-0

Finlay, Chaet score as well

Vieira Vieira scored her second career goal on Saturday against Le Moyne.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 18, 2014) – Senior back Gabriela Vieira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) got her head to a 64th-minute corner kick and put away her first goal of the season on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon, to help the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Le Moyne in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Junior goalkeeper Katie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) stopped all three shots on her net to pick up the shutout.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 9-3-1 (7-3-1 Northeast-10), while Le Moyne falls to 7-6-1 (5-4-1 Northeast-10). The Ravens honored their four-player senior class prior to the start of the game.

Franklin Pierce got the only goal it would need on Saturday in the 38th minute, when sophomore midfielder Madison Finlay (Plymouth, Mass.) put home her fourth goal of the season. Junior midfielder Kaycee Pereira (Ludlow, Mass.) sent a long ball into the offensive end from the left side of midfield. Finlay ran it down behind the defense and chipped the ball over the keeper into the empty net.

The game remained 1-0 through halftime, until the Ravens added a pair of second-half goals in a span of just 2:29 to create the 3-0 final. In the 64th minute, senior forward Talita Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) served a corner kick to the top of the six-yard box from the left-wing side. Vieira rose above the crowd, got her head to the ball and put it to the back of the net for her first goal of the season. For the standout defender, it was just her second career goal, as she also scored last season against Saint Anselm on Oct. 16, 2013.

Sophomore forward Nicole Chaet (Tewksbury, Mass.) capped the scoring in the 66th minute. She had the initial chance on the play as well, but rang a header off the cross bar. The rebound came out towards the top of the penalty area, but Chaet tracked it down and took another shot. This one cleanly beat Le Moyne junior goalkeeper Tori Corsaro for Chaet's second goal of the campaign.

Weldon's two-save shutout was her second win of the season in as many starts (2-0-0). Corsaro finished with three saves against six shots on goal and took the loss (7-6-1) in net for Le Moyne.

The Ravens return to the field on Friday, Oct. 24, when they remain home to host Pace in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Sodexo Field.
