RINDGE, N.H. (November 2, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team concluded its 2013 regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 setback to American International at Sodexo Field in Rindge. The Ravens fell to 7-7-3 overall and 6-6-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 14-1-2 and 12-1-2 in league play.

AIC outshot the Ravens, 13-4, and got goals from Sonia Basma and Meimi Tomochika to cruise to the win.

Basma scored her 15th of the season in the final minute of the first half, as she headed in a shot off a mad scramble in front of the goal. The play was set up by a nice pass from Alyssa Werbicki, who sent the ball to the mouth of the goal as the AIC attackers converged eventually pushing a shot past Franklin Pierce keeper Katie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.).

American International continued to hold the pace of the play throughout the second half and got a marker from Tomochika in the 86th minute as she jumped on a loose ball inside the six and sent a rocket towards the upper half of the net for the two-goal advantage.

Sophomore Hannah Weagle (Ipswich, Mass.) led Franklin Pierce with a pair of shots, as both went on net. Senior Gabriela Vieira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and freshman Madison Finlay (Plymouth, Mass.) each logged a shot as well for the Ravens.

Weldon made three saves despite suffering the loss to fall to 7-7-2 on the year. Samantha Tabak got the start in goal for the Yellow Jackets and made two saves to improve to 12-1-2 on the year.

Franklin Pierce now advances to the Northeast-10 Championship, as they will compete in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.
