Madison Finlay fires off 11 shots for the Ravens

RINDGE, N.H. (October 2, 2013) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team held a 19-8 advantage in shots Wednesday night, but could not convert as the Ravens played Bentley to a 0-0 tie at Sodexo Field in Rindge. Franklin Pierce moved to 3-3-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Falcons moved to 2-5-1 and 1-4-1 in league play.

Freshman forward Madison Finlay (Plymouth, Mass.) logged a season-high 11 shots for Franklin Pierce, including putting four on net.

However, the defensive units for both teams turned in strong performances to keep the offensive attack for each side off the board.

Franklin Pierce limited Bentley to just three shots on goal over its eight attempts, including only two in the first half as the Ravens pushed the offensive tempo. To Bentley’s credit, however, the Falcons were able to head Franklin Pierce off at the pass and limit its scoring opportunities. Overall, the Ravens managed just five shots on net in their 19 attempts taken.

The keepers for both teams were strong in goal, including Ravens backstop Katie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.), who stopped all three shots she faced, including a diving attempt midway through the second overtime.

Christiana Hynds turned aside all five shots she faced, including one through a maze of bodies off a corner kick attempt late in the second half.

Sophomore forward Hannah Weagle (Ipswich, Mass.) fired off three shots for the Ravens, while Kaycee Pereira (Ludlow, Mass.) added a pair of attempts.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Saturday when the Ravens play host to Adelphi at 1 p.m. in Sodexo Field.
