Strong Opening Half Pushes SNHU Past Women’s Lacrosse on Friday Afternoon, 18-9

Rindge, N.H. (3/34/23) – Southern New Hampshire University posted an 11-goal first half against the Franklin Pierce women's lacrosse team on Friday afternoon, en route to an 18-9 victory for the visiting Penmen.

The Ravens slip to a 1-6 (0-4 NE10) mark on the season, while SNHU advances to 6-1 (2-1 NE10) in their respective campaign.

Junior midfielder Shelby Cole led the Penmen with eight goals and a lone assist on the afternoon. The Penmen kicked off the scoring spree with five-consecutive marks in the opening quarter with a trio of goals by Cole. Skylar Renaud chipped in with a pair of goals as Alexis DeLucia added on an unassisted goal and assist for SNHU's fourth goal of the stanza.

Junior Kayli Hoefs (Amsterdam, N.Y) notched two of the Ravens' first three goals to mark a two-goal deficit heading into the second quarter. Cole and senior attack Angelina Graziano connected for back-to-back markers for SNHU, before freshman Maura Cogavin (Franklin, Mass.) took advantage of the man-up opportunity and scored with 9:01 remaining in the half. Hoefs netted one final tally to bring the game within three, but the Penmen closed the half with three final strikes coming from Cole, Graziano and DeLucia to extend the lead over Franklin Pierce to 11-6 heading into the intermission.

Senior midfielder Katelyn Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) found sophomore attack Hayley Hermsdorf (Center Moriches, N.Y.) for the first goal of the second half. SNHU's Rachel McLaughlin recorded her first goal for the Penmen before Cole and Courtney Cronin tacked on two more markers. Hadden, Emily Ulmer (Bedford, N.H.) and Hoefs rallied for three consecutive goals to bleeding into the fourth quarter brining the Ravens within five and 10:05 remaining in regulation. SNHU added four insurance markers in the final eight minutes as Graziano, Cronin and Cole posted her seventh and eighth goals of the afternoon to secure the 18-9 win over Franklin Pierce. 

Erin Blake (Southborough, Mass.) started in between the pipes for the Ravens as she compiled five saves and had 11 goals against before Saige Paradise (Milford, N.H.) closed out the Friday excursion with five saves and seven goals against. SNHU's Megan Petko claimed the win with six saves and six goals against, while Megan Mollman closed out the day in goal with a pair of saves on five shots faced.

The Ravens will be back in action on Wednesday, March 29th, as the Ravens will play host to Molloy at Sodexo Field with first draw scheduled for 5 p.m.
