First-Half Deficit Leads to Loss for Women's Lacrosse at Le Moyne, 19-10

DEWITT, N.Y. (3/21/23) - The host Le Moyne College Dolphins built a 12-3 lead at the half against the Franklin Pierce women's lacrosse team, which provided enough insurance to secure a 19-10 win over the Ravens on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

The loss extends Pierce's recent skid to four games in a row and drops them to 1-5 (0-3 NE10) overall on the season. Le Moyne, with the win, improves to 5-1 (1-0 NE10).

The first quarter did not see a lot of scoring altogether, with the Dolphins holding a 3-1 advantage through 15-minutes played. After surrendering the opening goal to attacker Sara Goodwin less than a minute in, junior attacker Olivia DeLonais (North Andover, Mass.) brought things to a 1-1 stalemate with her fifth of the season. From that point on, however, the Dolphins would storm ahead to an 11-1 lead on ten unanswered goals, four of which were scored by Sara Goodwin.

With 2:48 left in the first half, senior Katelyn Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) ended the scoreless drought for the Ravens on a free position attempt, scoring her 13th of the season. Less than 30-seconds later, Olivia Delonais added her second of the day to bring the score to 11-3. Le Moyne would then add another prior to the end of the first half, bringing the score to 12-3 in favor of the hosts.

Despite their third quarter struggles this season, the Ravens rose to the occasion this time around. With Le Moyne striking first at 13:49 to stretch their lead to 13-3, the Ravens cut their deficit down to 13-7 following consecutive goals by freshman junior Kayli Hoefs (Amsterdam, N.Y.), freshman Olivia Robb (East Longmeadow, Mass.), and seniors Gabrielle Oswald (Nedrow, N.Y.) and Katelyn Hadden across a 2:30 span. Olivia Delonais would complete her hattrick performance with another goal with 2:03 remaining in the third, but the Dolphins would still hold the reigns with a 15-8 advantage entering the fourth.

Franklin Pierce would secure two more goals to reach double-digits in the final frame, but Le Moyne would still manage to stretch their lead out with a 4-2 scoring edge, completing the 19-10 effort.

Freshman goalie Saige Paradise (Milford, N.H.) took the loss in her first collegiate start on Tuesday, turning aside 4-of-15 shots faced through 24:39 played for the Ravens. Senior Erin Blake (Southborough, Mass.) offered some assistance in the effort, making 11 saves on 19 more shots faced through 35:21 played.

Women's Lacrosse returns home to Sodexo Field this Friday, March 24th for some more in-conference action against Southern New Hampshire University (4-1, 0-1 NE10) at 4:00 p.m.
