Women’s Lacrosse Downed by No. 4 Le Moyne, 18-8

RINDGE, N.H. (March 20, 2018) – Junior attack Bryanna Fazio and sophomore midfielder Nicole Delany scored six goals apiece on Tuesday afternoon, as No. 4 nationally ranked Le Moyne came to Sodexo Field and dealt the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team an 18-8 defeat. Senior midfielder Briana Sweeney (Shirley, N.Y.) scored three times to lead Franklin Pierce in the Northeast-10 Conference contest, while twin sister Caitlin Sweeney (Shirley, N.Y.) added two goals and two assists.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-3 (0-3 NE10), while Le Moyne improves to 6-0 (2-0 NE10).

Le Moyne opened the scoring just 51 seconds into the proceedings on Tuesday, as freshman attack Erin McMullen put home her 15th goal of the season. Franklin Pierce would answer with goals from sophomore midfielder Sarah Waldrep (North Andover, Mass.) and Caitlin Sweeney -- with the latter notching her 18th of the year -- to briefly take a 2-1 lead 5:44 into the game.

Le Moyne tied the game 31 seconds later and would never trail again. Freshman attack Emily Altland set up the seventh goal of the campaign for junior defender Monica Sanna, for the first of four straight Le Moyne goals. It was the start of a larger, 9-1, run which staked the Dolphins to a 10-3 lead with 5:01 to play before halftime. Delany notched four goals in the run, while Fazio tallied a natural hat trick over a span of 2:27 to cap the surge.

Caitlin Sweeney notched her second of the day with 1:52 left in the half to cut the gap to 10-4. Le Moyne answered before halftime, as Delany's fifth of the afternoon came with just 0.3 seconds left on the clock to give the Dolphins an 11-4 lead at the intermission.

Le Moyne also put home the first four goals of the second half to extend the run to 14-2. Delany capped things off with the last of her six goals on the day 9:10 into the second half, to push the lead as high as 15-4.

Franklin Pierce would outscore Le Moyne 4-3 the rest of the way to create the 18-8 final. Briana Sweeney notched three goals down the stretch to run her season total to 11, while Caitlin Sweeney set up the fifth goal of the campaign for sophomore attack Morgan Riley (Jamesville, N.Y.). Meanwhile, Fazio struck twice more down the stretch run to cap the scoring for Le Moyne and finish off her six-goal outing. The Dolphins generated advantages of 36-20 in shot attempts and 31-14 in shots on goal on the day.

The Sweeney twins were the only Ravens to tally more than one point on the day, with Briana Sweeney peppering the Le Moyne cage with a team-best seven shots on goal (on 10 shot attempts). Caitlin Sweeney and senior goalkeeper Madison Murray (Berkley, Mich.) each picked up four ground balls to lead Franklin Pierce, while sophomore defender Jillian Koop (Youngstown, N.Y.) added three of her own. Freshman midfielder Zoe Totland (Salt Lake City, Utah) nabbed six draw controls, while Caitlin Sweeney snagged five.

For Le Moyne, Fazio and Delany each netted a half-dozen goals, while Sanna added 1-3-4 and McMullen put home three goals. Sophomore midfielder Olivia McEntee picked up five ground balls to lead the Dolphins, while junior defender Madison Pritchard snagged three. Sanna collected a team-best five draw controls, while Fazio and Delany added four apiece.

Murray (0-1) made 13 saves against 31 shots on goal and suffered the loss in front of the Franklin Pierce goal. Sophomore netminder Hannah George (6-0) stopped six of 14 shots at the other end of the field to pick up the win for Le Moyne.

The Ravens return to the field on Saturday, March 24, when they travel to Southern New Hampshire for an NE10 contest. Game time is set for noon at Penmen Stadium in Manchester, N.H.
