Women's Lacrosse Falls 19-6 to New Haven

RINDGE, N.H. (April 25, 2015) – In their final game of the season, the Franklin Pierce University Women's Lacrosse team honored its seven-player senior class on Saturday afternoon at Sodexo Field against New Haven University. Keeping a tie most of the first half, the Ravens lost steam and New Haven took the 19-6 win.  

With the loss, the Ravens finish their season out 7-8 (5-8 NE-10) and the Chargers improve to 14-2 (11-2 NE-10).

With just under 15 minutes to play, freshman Caitlin Sweeney (Shirley, N.Y.) scored back to back unassisted goals to tie the game 2-2. The Chargers responded with a goal to regain the lead, but freshman Briana Sweeney (Shirley, N.Y.) brought the game back to a tie. The Ravens could not hold off the Chargers, and they pushed their lead to 9-3 in the final six seconds of the half.

Four minutes into the second half, Caitlin Sweeney responded to a Charger goal to cut into their lead, 9-4. The Chargers would score three more goals until senior Megan Raposa (Tiverton, R.I.) scored her final goal of her career to bring the score to 12-5.

With just over 16 minutes to play, freshman Anna Wilbert (Bohemia, N.Y.) scored the final goal of the game for the Ravens on a pass from senior Madeline Shopshire (Hyannis, Mass.). The Chargers would score the last give goals to end the game 19-6.

Sophomore Nicole Belanger, junior Corinne Fisher, senior Kathryn Campbell, and junior Alicia Busco each scored three goals. Sophomore Hannah Johnson grabbed three ground balls. Junior goalkeeper Alyssa Gianotti took the win (8-1) and had six saves in her 46:45 of play, while junior Marisssa McDermott had three saves in her 13:15 of play.

Caitlin Sweeney led the team with three goals, while Briana Sweeney added in a goal and collected a ground ball. Anna Wilbert and Megan Raposa each added in a single goal. Sophomore goal keeper Denise Hunt (Hull, Mass.) took the loss in cage (6-7) and made 11 saves in her 42:21 of play, while senior Julia Coakley (Bridgewater, Mass.) made four saves in her 17:39 of play.
