Women’s Lacrosse Downed by No. 1 Adelphi, 20-4

Ravens host Saint Anselm on Tuesday

Ravens Women's Lacrosse RINDGE, N.H. (March 28, 2015) – After Sodexo Field was transformed from buried under three inches of snow to playable in the span of a little over an hour, the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team took on the defending national champion and No. 1 nationally ranked Adelphi on a frigid Saturday afternoon. Sophomore attack Jacqueline Jahelka scored five goals and added an assist to lead the way for Adelphi, while senior attack Madeline Shopshire (Hyannis, Mass.) scored three times in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 4-3 (2-3 Northeast-10), while Adelphi improves to 9-0 (6-0 Northeast-10) and has now won 31 games in a row. The 16-goal margin of victory marked the smallest deficit the Ravens have ever had against Adelphi.

Adelphi scored the first 14 goals of the game, including six in the game's first seven minutes, and never looked back. Jahelka had four of her five goals in the first half, while junior attack Emily Keesling scored three times and senior midfielder Alexa Froccaro and sophomore midfielder Kate Beier added two goals each. For the Panthers, the 20-4 win pushed their season scoring margin to 154-48.

Shopshire scored Franklin Pierce's lone first-half goal and added a pair in the second half to finish with a team-high three scores. Freshman midfielder Briana Sweeney (Shirley, N.Y.) added a second-half goal as well. Defensively, senior defender Amanda Gauvin (Ashburnham, Mass.) picked up three ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers, while sophomore midfielder Kenady Kelly (Plymouth, N.H.) finished with two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

For Adelphi, behind Jahelka's six points, Froccaro added five (2-3-5) and Keesling (3-1-4) and freshman attack Chandley Borges (2-2-4) added four each. Senior midfielder Felicia Mills and junior defender Camille Rosellini made sure Adelphi had possession throughout the afternoon by corralling nine and six draw controls, respectively.

The Ravens return to the field on Tuesday, March 31, when they remain home to host Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Sodexo Field.
